NOW'S THE TIME TO THINK AND VOTE
The 7 Questions

To: London Bridges Falling Down

  1. What's the Bush War done for you,
Done for you, done for you?
What's the Bush War done for you,
    My dear voter?

  2. Are there more good jobs for you,
Jobs for you, jobs for you?
Are there any jobs for you,
    My dear voter?

  3. What’s your health plan costing you,
If you have one, if you have one?
What’s your health plan costing you,
    My dear voter?

  4. What's Bush's tax cuts given you,
    Given you, given you?
What's Bush's tax cuts given you,
    My dear voter?

  5. Why were our young men sent to die,
    Far overseas, far overseas?
Why are our young men sent to die,
    My dear voter?
  6. Should we have to pray like him?
Pray like him, pray like him?
Should we have to pray like him
    My dear voter?

  7. Can you name one selfless thing,
He's done for us, done for us,
    One bold and selfless thing,
    My Dear Voter?

Now's the time to think and vote,
think and vote, think and vote,
Now's the time to think and vote,
    My dear voter

WHERE HAVE OUR YOUNG SOLDIERS GONE?
Melody: Where Have All the Flowers Gone.
Words Inspired by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld,
and US Army Veteran Pete Seeger

Where have our young soldiers gone?
Don't see them anywhere.
Where have our young solders gone?
Nowhere near home.
Where have our young soldiers gone ?
Send to strange lands every one
When will our men return
When will our young men return?

How will some of them come home?
Don't see them over there.
How will some of them come home?
Don't see them here.
How will some of them come home?
In flag-draped coffins- cold as stone.
That's how our men will return
That's how our young men return.

Who sent our soldiers off to die
Far, far overseas?
Who sent our soldiers off to die
Far overseas?
Politicians steeped in oil,
Men who set our world aboil
Will these men ever learn?
Will these men ever learn?

When will all this bloodshed end?
Let's pray it will be soon
When will this bloodshed end?
Pray it will be soon.
When the cowboys waving flags
Weary of more body bags,
That's when this war will end,
That's when this war will end.

IN THIS GREAT, RICH CITY
The Adam Smith Waltz
by Peter Belman Agnos

CHORUS:
In this great, rich city everyone's free;
Both the rich and the poor can sleep under a tree,
And when the boss says "bye, bye!," it's too bad for the guy
Who fell into debt during "prosperity".

This city's wonderful if you have dough;
But If you don't- it's no, no, no, no;
This city's wonderful if you have dough;
But If you don't- it's no, no, no, no!

1. Wage earners are still free to gaze at the moon:
But Congress may slap a new tax on that soon
To raise money for, the next Viet Nam war,
To "free" Kuwait City, and leave it in ruin.

2. Many hard workers own big TV sets,
Automobiles and whopping fat debts;
Then away it all rolls, The banks own our souls:
The more stuff we buy, the poorer we gets. CHORUS

3. The Pentagon wastes three-trillion on bombs,
Planes, submarines, and non-working alarms:
While Congress acts blind, and says it can't find
Cash for our schools, our parks, and small farms.

4. In this richest of cities the homeless abound,
While bankers step over folks sprawled on the ground.
Congress saves the day by raising its pay,
Declaring the "market" is wondrously sound. CHORUS

5. There's a law for the big guys, and a law for the small:
They jail kids who take flowers from the park mall,
While they give medals to the millionaires who
Steal our park malls away from us all. CHORUS

FREE ENTERPRISE IS GREAT
Words: P. Agnos
Music: 'Revive Us Again', Hallelujah I'm a Bum, 1905

1. I worked in a shop till tossed out on my ass,
Now I am one of the dis-employed class.

CHORUS:
Free Enterprise Is Great
If You've Got Lots of Gold Plate;
but If You Can't Find a Real Job,
Join Our Grand, Singing Mob.

2. My job was O.K.; I wasn't bitchin'
Till it flew Mexico-way; and I, to a soup kitchen.

3. We went to the store and asked for some bread,
The boss gave us a flag and a bible instead.
CHORUS

4. "Why don't you guys save all the money you earn?"
"Judge, when our kids stop eating we'll have money to burn."
CHORUS

5. When we can't get a job, and we're hungry and pale,
We'll find a kind-hearted cop who will throw us in jail.
CHORUS

6. My firm was like a second home to me,
Till the boss laid me off; now I'm enterprise-free.
CHORUS

7. "Oh why don't you work like other guys do?"
"How the hell can we work when there's no work to do?"

8. Hey, don't just complain; meet with other guys
who don't have a job, then go organize!
CHORUS

THE BODY-BAG BLUES
Words: Pete Agnos.
Melody: Inspired by a Billie Holiday song

Love my country sober, and I love her when she’s drunk,
I love my country sober, yes and I love her when she’s drunk,
But I love her best when she’s not high on Iraqi junk.

The Texas gang’s gone groggy, drunk on going to war,
The Texas gang’s gone groggy, high on going to war,
Better sober ‘em up or they’ll drag us deep in gore.

War will kill our freedoms, and kill a lot of kids,
War will kill our freedoms, kill lots of tiny kids,
War will pull this country down, down the no-where skids.

Better ask tough questions, ask them loud and clear,
Better ask tough questions, ask them loud and clear:
Who gets blown up? Who gets the oil? Is it worth warfare?

People ask straight questions, ask them now and here,
Let us ask straight questions, ask them now and here:
Who gets the body bags? Who winds up a billionaire?

HE SCANNED THE SKIES
To the jolly Turkish dance Ali Pasha

He scanned the skies and told us lies,
He said ‘Have faith, we have great spies.’
He scanned the skies and told us lies:
‘Just follow me I have sharp eyes.’

He said ‘Iraq is full of crack,
and evil men who we should whack.
My Dad on High will never lie.
It’s just too bad if some kids die.’

What Georgie said left thousands dead
Unleashed a whirlwind, and horror spread.
‘We didn’t guess they’d make a fuss,
Not throw us flowers and welcome us’

What Georgie did cannot be hid.
His silly lies unscrewed the lid.
He’s dragged us to a new Vietnam,
He smudged his tracks with flim and flam.

He scanned the skies and told us lies
He said “Have faith, we have great spies”
He scanned the skies and told us lies:
“Just follow me I have sharp eyes”

LET US WALK ALONG THAT RIVER HAND IN HAND
Music: a gospel sung by Leadbelly; words: Peter Agnos

Let us walk along that river hand in hand
Let us walk along that river hand in hand
Black and red and white and tan
Billionaire and beggar man
Let us walk along that river hand in hand

Brothers, sisters pull together, or we’ll sink,
yes we’ll sink,
Brothers, sisters pull together, or we’ll sink,
yes we’ll sink;
Work together; let us share,
Strike those who do not care. (won’t give a cent)
Brothers, sisters work together or we’ll sink.

Congress says it has no money for our schools,
Congress says it has no money for our schools,
Though our pile of bombs immense
They find trillions for ‘defense’ (defense of what?)
‘Our’ congress says it has no money for our schools.

All we want is our fair share, our fair share,
We work hard and only want our fair share;
We don’t steal, we don’t rob,
We’re the guys who do the job.
All we want is our fair share, our fair share.

If we all stick together, we can win, we can win,
If we all stick together, we can win!
Though our enemies are strong,
We make sense, they’re in the wrong!
If we all stick together we can win.

We can all live together, yes we can, yes we can,
Live and love together, yes we can;
On this green and fragile earth,
We’ll organize a new birth
We can live and love together, yes we can.

Let us walk along that river hand in hand...
