Studies, Projects, and Issues Include:

  • Battery-Electric Cross-Town, Urban Buses.  God created narrow, crowded Manhattan Island for quiet, non-polluting electric buses. Vehicles propelled by batteries are not new - indeed on third of all motor vehicles were electric around 1900. In fact NYC had an electric double decker bus in 1908.   Now battery and electric technology has greatly improved, making electric buses with routes under 4 miles feasible and competitive as well as clean and quiet.

  • Greenways For Human Transit and Preservation of Open Space.  We have scouted and described THE BATT TO BEAR TRAIL: From the Battery to Bear Mountain, a 56-mile multi-use greenway that runs along the Hudson through four counties and 13 parks.  (See shorewalkers.org and Walking the Hudson: Batt to Bear)

  • Get to the Meeting Without Your Car - (simple proposal)

  • DOW NOW - Create a NYC Department of Walking (DOW) and Human-Powered Transportation. Walking is the major form of human locomotion in NYC. Walkers need a government agency to support their interests.
